Summertime summertime sum-sum summertime....

My goodness this warm air has just about melted me down.
I have found that the best antidote to an ensuing melt-down just might be lemonade (hard or soft)
taken under a large shade tree with a thick summer novel.

THE HEALING POWER OF LEMONS

Lemons are an optimal source of Vitamin C.
Humans are unable to produce vitamin C and so must ingest it with food.
Vitamin C promotes healing and stimulates the incorporation of calcium, among many other healthful properties.

Lemonade Recipe

1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, 1 cup of lemon juice.

The secret to perfect lemonade is to start by making sugar syrup, also known as "simple syrup".
Dissolving the sugar in hot water effectively disperses the sugar in the lemonade, instead of having the sugar sink to the bottom.

In a small saucepan heat the sugar and water until the sugar is dissolved completely.
While the sugar is dissolving, use a juicer to extract the juice from 4 to 6 lemons, enough for one cup of juice.
Add the juice and the sugar water to a pitcher. Add around 4 cups of cold water, more or less to the desired strength.
Refrigerate 30 to 40 minutes.
Serve with ice, sliced lemons.
Serves 6.

Summer Reading

I've just finished "Cold Mountain" (thanks for the loan of the book, Darlene).  A great read.

Here is a list of the area libraries ... some have recommended reading lists.

Toronto Public Library
(spend some time on the Toronto page...its full of links and information)
Middlesex County Library
Oxford County Library

I also found a great link to a webpage listing Canadian Book Clubs.
Thamesford, Ontario is in the lists of bookclubs across Canada.... way to go, Thamesford!

WHAT I DID ON MY SUMMER VACATION
I took 300 pictures during my trip around Ireland and Holland.  I know you don't have time to view all of them so I picked two for your viewing pleasure.
Here we (Norma and I) are on the Hill of Tara standing beside the Stone of Destiny.

Just to round out this email... I think I should let you know of another refreshing drink I have discovered this summer...
1 oz. Drambuie topped off with chilled Club Soda and lime wedges.... you chose the size of the glass filled with ice cubes.
Very refeshing!
