Thorndyke B&B at Grand Bank

The Great View from the Thorndyke B&B (facing east)
I took so many pix of coves and cliffs and fishing scenes... how can one choose?

While crawling around every cove and inlet in the Avalon and Eastern Regions of Newfoundland, we ate a lot of pea soup... it became an obsession to try the pea soup at the day's diner. Needless to say, we ate a lot of pea soup. So here is a Pea Soup recipe that I found in one of Gary's newly-purchased Newfoundland cookbooks.

Pea Soup - Newfoundland Style
Yield: 10 Servings

Ingredients

2 c dried split peas
1 water
1 c lean salt port, cubed
2 c chopped turnip
1 c chopped carrot
1/2 c chopped potato
1/2 c chopped onion
1/3 c chopped celery leaves
1 ts salt
1/4 ts pepper

Instructions

Combine peas and 10 cups of water in a large saucepan. Bring to a
rapid boil; boil 2 minutes; turn off heat and let stand for one hour.
Place pork in sieve; rinse well under cold running water. Place in
another saucepan with 2 cups of water. Cover, bring to a boil; reduce
heat and simmer 30 minutes. Strain off liquid into a bowl; chill
until fat sets on top, remove fat; add liquid to peas. Trim off and
discard fat from pork; add lean pieces to peas. Add turnip, carrot,
potato, onion, celery leaves, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil,
reduce heat and simmer 2 hours until vegetables are tender. Puree
soup if smooth texture is desired.

While in St. John's Gary and I went on an evening Haunted Hike Tour. It was interesting, fun, and good exercise as we climbed more stairs and hills then I've ever seen in one city. I found out that there is a similar tour that will take place this fall in London. It sounds like it will be interesting, fun and good exercise... even without the stairs and hills.
London's Lost Soul Stroll

The tour will guide you along the Forks of the Thames and through downtown London where costumed figures will share ghostly true history through the theatrical magic of seasoned actors.

TIME ZONE CHECK

Here is just the website you needed ... if you have ever wondered what time it is in Fiji or Moscow or Lima, Peru.
Click on the picture of the clock and you'll have a view of time around the world... you won't find the Newfoundland Time Zone though.

EVER WONDER HOW MUCH CAFFEINE YOU'RE GETTING?
(click on the coffee cup below to hear a cute coffee blurb)

I seem to be one of those people who have a sensitivity to caffeine.
More than two cups and I'm jittery for hours... have any caffeine after lunch and I'm awake until 3am.
And I love the stuff!!!!

On the average:
• 8-ounce cup of average coffee = 100 milligrams
• Black Tea (8 ounce cup) = 40 milligrams
• Green Tea (8 ounce cup) = 20 milligrams
• Red Bull (8 ounce can) = 80 milligrams

Starbucks:
• Tall (12oz) = 95 milligrams
• Grande (16oz) = 260 milligrams
• Venti (20oz) = 325 milligrams
• 1 single oz shot of espresso = 65 milligrams
