STONES
& ROSES
JULY 2007
NEWSLETTER
Hope you're all taking it easy in this heat... wish we could store it up for
next February!
I have turned into a sloth during the late afternoon hours and a basement
dweller in the evenings.
We don't have AC in our house so have to use the good old fashioned ways of
keeping cool... like not moving too fast.
So here I am down in the basement working on this newsletter... keeping nice
and cool.
Here's a list of what's in this month's letter:
Dorchester Drumming Circle Update

Pollinating Gourds

The Dorchester Women's Drumming Circle has donated $290.00 to "My Sister's
Place".... good on ya, drummers!
Hats off to The Dorchester Legion for letting us drum in
their establishment rent-free so that we can make these donations.
A special word of thanks goes to Rosella Piche, who has been our champion
on the Legion Executive.
And to our faciliator, Sheila Horrell, who has been a major supporter as we've
been learning new rhythms.
See you at The Dorchester Legion again in September... our first drumming
night of Year 3 will be Wednesday, September 19th.
You'll all be getting a reminder email before that night so don't worry about
writing it down in your calendar right now.
CANTERBURY
FOLK FESTIVAL
INGERSOLL
JULY 13, 14, 15 - 2007
This looks like a really good time... and the concerts are free!
Ingersoll also has free parking and my favourite coffee spot, The Bakery Cafe
on the main street is where you can get tasty coffee and desserts.
KINDRED
SPIRITS BOOKS
... a resource for spiritual directors and those on the spiritual journey.
Pauline has a new website with lists of all of the books she carries or can
get for you.
Great website... check it out!

WISE
WOMAN WEEKEND
September 14, 15, 16 - 2007
I've been hearing about this weekend from some friends and finally have found
their website.
This is the third annual Wise Woman Weekend coming up and it's happening on
September 14, 15, 16, 2007.
The location is just south of Bayfield, on the shores of Lake Huron... a nice
place to spend a fall weekend.
"The weekend will include fun workshops, each given by a woman accomplished
in her chosen field.
The Healing Oasis will be available for the mind, body, and spirit through
reflexology, reiki, massage, as well as other modalities."
|
Quoted from their website: "We invite women of all ages to join us once again on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron to embrace and celebrate our sacred femininity, our birthright. Through drumming, dancing, and singing, we will celebrate and nurture our minds, our bodies, and our souls as we send thanks and blessings to one another, the Earth, and the Universe." |
'GATHERING OF THE GOOD MINDS, 2007"
A Celebration of Native Arts, Wisdom and Culture
September 21, 22, 23 - 2007

This event will take place at the Museum London, and the Museum of Ontario
Archaeology.
I'll post more information about workshops and schedules as I get it.
RHUBARB JUICE
Deb made up some rhubarb juice this month and gave me a quart jar of it.
I mixed the juice with some club soda and shared it with the Writing Group.
What a refreshing drink on a hot day!
So, here is a recipe I found in Wikipedia that sounds like what Deb did.
Remember to cook only in non-aluminum pots only due to the acidic nature of
rhubarb.
Ingredients:
* 2 pounds tender rhubarb (chopped)
* 5 cups water
* ¼ cup lemon juice
Directions:
1. Combine and cook until mushy.
2. Strain well, reserving only the juice.
3. Add lemon juice.
* For each cup of concentrate, add 1/3 cup sugar and 1/2 cup grapefruit
juice, and chill well.
* Just before serving, add 1 quart chilled ginger ale or club soda and stir
well.
Hmmmm... I wonder how it would go with a sparkly white wine?
Tonight and for the next few nights I shall venture forth into the dark to
pollinate gourds.
I have read that I must go out with a paintbrush & dab the male flower
and then the female flower.
Pollination has then been assured and that tiny gourd underneath the female
flower will turn into a big gourd.
If it is not pollinated that tiny gourd will just turn brown and fall off.
Now how's that for an exciting way to spend a summer evening!!!
